When There Are No Words: Understanding Grief and Loss
July 29, 2010 11:00 PM
Have you experienced times of significant change and transition in your life? The death of a loved one or other life-changing events can be overwhelming at times as you struggle to function in a world that is so different from what it once was. Whenever you experience change, different from how you have “always known it to be,” you experience a variety of grief reactions. Many people feel very alone and worry whether they are “normal.”
Perhaps you know someone who is grieving a significant loss and feel uncertain about what to say or how to be a support to them. This seminar, led by PATHways Center for Grief & Loss Director Patti Anewalt, will provide an overview of the bereavement process, addressing loss, grief and mourning, anticipatory grief, and secondary losses. It offers suggestions as to what might be helpful when supporting others coping with loss and includes information about the Hospice of Lancaster County’s PATHways Center services.

Healthcare Reform
August 26, 2010 11:00 AM
Health care reform comes in two pieces of legislation, The Patient Protection and Affordability Act (the Original Bill) which was signed into law by the President in March and the HR 4872 Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010 (the Amendment). Healthcare reform relies heavily on new tax provisions in the Internal Revenue Code to implement many of the goals of health care reform. The effective dates for many of these tax provisions are delayed - some do not take effect until 2013, 2014 or even 2018. This seminar will give an overview of these provisions but concentrate on several that have an immediate impact. Perhaps as an effort to help increase the popularity of the legislation, many of the provisions with the earlier effective dates are taxpayer-friendly provisions, while many of the penalty provisions and revenue-raising provisions have delayed effective dates.
Understanding Investor Behavior
September 16, 2010 1:00 PM
When it comes to money and investing, we're not always as rational as we think we are - which is why there's a whole field of study that explains our sometimes-strange behavior. Where do you, as an investor, fit in? Insight into the theory and findings of behavioral finance may help you answer this question. This seminar will cover some of these behavioral traits and help you avoid some of the common investing mistakes.
